Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said during the interim budget speech that 2 crore more houses will be built in the next 5 years to meet the needs arising from the increase in the number of families.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in Parliament that 2 crore houses will be built in the next five years under PM Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-Gramin). At the beginning of the budget speech, he once again hoped for the return of the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the interim speech in Parliament, the Finance Minister said that despite the challenges of Covid, the work of PM Awas Yojana Gramin continued and our government is close to achieving the target of 3 crore houses.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that 2 crore new houses will be built under the Modi government Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G).

Who has been getting the benefits of PM Kisan Yojana Gramin?

Till now the Central Government has been providing these eligible beneficiaries under PM Awas Yojana Gramin Yojana. Apart from the Below Poverty Line (BPL) list, there are some other individuals who are eligible to receive the benefits of PMAY-G…. The family should not have a permanent house anywhere in the entire country. Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) Minority and non-SC/ST rural families in BPL category Widows and dependents of retired and martyred defense personnel/paramilitary forces The family applying for loan under this scheme consists of a husband, wife and children (who must be unmarried). The applicant and his/her family must meet the mandatory income criteria for this scheme and must belong to the EWS (Economically Weaker Section), LIG (Low Income Group), or BPL (Below Poverty Line) category The family income of the applicant should be between Rs 3 lakh to Rs 6 lakh. Under this scheme, beneficiaries are allowed to buy or construct only one property.

On what basis is the list prepared?

The government focuses on the Socio Economic Caste Census 2011 to identify beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Apart from this, the government involves tehsils and panchayats to decide the final list.
